Dove House Hospice delighted as Martin Dixon Ltd donations surpass £28,000

Fundraisers at a Hull charity which provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses have hailed the efforts of staff at Martin Dixon Ltd after their latest donation took the total raised to more than £28,000.

Staff from the Anlaby-based business handed over cheques to Dove House last week totalling £6,150.

The money was raised through a charity bike challenge undertaken by staff, and a golf day organised by the business this year.

The bike challenge saw a team from Martin Dixon complete a coast to coast cycle over two days from Cumbria to Yorkshire, raising money which staff at Dove House say is fundamental to it being able to continue providing palliative care to patients whose illness is no longer curable and for whom the goal must be quality of life.

Since first becoming involved with the charity when providing mechanical and electrical services as part of a major refurbishment, staff at Martin Dixon have together raised £28,921.19 for Dove House.

Jethro Shearring, fundraising coordinator at the hospice, said: "At Dove House Hospice we are totally reliant on the generosity of local individuals, community groups and businesses such as Martin Dixon Ltd.

"To have raised such a fantastic total from the bike ride and golf day is a credit to Martin and the rest of the staff.

"Contributions such as these are fundamental to the hospice being able to continue to provide its services, free of charge, to those in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

"The hospice has been fortunate to have had a close connection with Martin Dixon Ltd for a number of years now and on behalf of the staff, patients and their families we cannot thank everyone involved enough for their efforts.

"I know how much hard work and dedication goes into the organisation of their fundraising, from finding time to train for the coast-to-coast bike ride to recruiting teams for the golf day.

"I know that seeing the work that goes on at the hospice on a daily basis spurred Martin and the team to give something back and we have been so grateful to see their annual fundraising efforts since."

Martin Dixon, who established his business more than 30 years ago, said he was delighted to have raised such a large amount for the charity, which he says does tremendous work for those in need every day.

Whilst the events of this year took the amount raised to more than £28,000 for Dove House alone, it took the total raised to more than £45,000 for charities across the region.

This has included Hull's Life For a Kid, which also received a £6,000 from this year's cycle challenge and golf day, plus another £2,000 in sponsorship.

"It is fantastic to have raised so much money over the past few years, and to be on the verge of £30,000 for Dove House and close to £50,000 overall for all the charities we have helped, is fantastic," said Mr Dixon.

"Dove House is an amazing place doing amazing things.

"They say they deliver the best possible care when there is no cure and add life to days when days can't be added to life, and that is so true. I always say that if you are feeling down, a visit Dove House makes you feel so inspired by what they do and the contribution they make to peoples' lives.

"Next year we'll have to look at a slightly different challenge. It may involve bikes again, but could also involve canoes. Let's wait and see, but it will be a big year when we can pass some really fantastic fund-raising milestones."

Client Testimonials

Laurence Garton, Yorkare Homes

Martin Dixon projects we are involved in we find that the quality of there workmanship is excellent and we rarely find any snagging items. Their employees (on site) are very approachable to discuss the works they are undertaking and have great knowledge of the project in hand and services they are installation.

Allan Whitehead, site manager, South Cave CE Primary School

Martin Dixon Ltd were brilliant. They stood out ahead of all other firms we looked at across the country as they could offer us the complete package. It was great to use an established local company with the expertise to deliver this for us, and throughout their time on site they were superb. Financially, the savings and extra income will allow us to run the school for a year at no cost to us.

Janet Huscroft, Headteacher, Hook CE Primary School

I was introduced to the work of Martin Dixon at an awareness raising meeting organised by the local NAHT Association. They installed LED lighting throughout the school. The work was promptly carried out during the summer break of 2015, we are delighted with the results. I would have no hesitation in recommending Martin Dixon as a company to fulfil what they promise.

Alison Risebury, School Business Manager, Swinefleet Primary School

After just having had our LED lights fitted in school this week, I just wanted to get in touch to say thankyou to Martin Dixon for the work you did. All lights are now changed making a massive difference to the lighting within our school and hopefully to our electrical costs! Many thanks for the level of service that you have given us.
